If you use SOK, equip stuff, then change souls, you're free to keep using all the items you equipped beyond 5500 essence.

Separately, I had 2 souls total, Chrono + Dual Crescents, on this guy before resetting purely for the sake of testing stuff and looking for bugs- any chance I can get those both put back on? I'm done with him for now, gonna transcend and move on.
